Marie Shields Homes provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for children and young people. Our homes are designed to be safe and nurturing, offering spaces where children and young people can relax, learn, and engage in daily activities.
The Home has 3 floors with seven habitable rooms consisting of; The first floor has a living with (smart TV, Music system, Wifi, sofas, Netflix), a Large fully equipped kitchen with (cooker, large individual fridge, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, wash-dyer washing machine, pots, pans, utensils, individual cabinets, dining table with chairs), The staff office room is also located on the first floor with (office equipment, meeting space for children, staff and professionals, filling cabinets, safe and medication cabinet), one toilet with sink.
The second floor has three bedrooms for the young people consisting of two en-suite bedrooms (with private sink, toilet,bath/shower rooms), one double bedroom,the main bathroom (with bathtub/shower, toilet,sink)
The third floor is exclusively a staff sleeping area with private toilet,sink for staff members only.
All young people have their own bedroom with a double bed, storage furniture (bedside table, wardrobe, and/or chest of drawers), soft furnishing (Curtains, blinds, carpets, linen etc), Depending on need of child additional furnishing include-Desk & Chair, personal key to the room. They also have access to communal areas, including a spacious garden, kitchen, lounge, dining room, meeting room.
There is a spacious high fenced garden equipped with outdoor sitting area and grass lawn space which the young people are encouraged to help to maintain, and there is space for outdoor games, BBQ area , outdoor party and other outdoor activities thus allowing room for where the young people can relax, listen to music, or play games, eat and have outdoor fun.
The House is less than 10 minutes’ drive from beautiful Parks such as Colne Valley Regional Park, Denham Country Park, and The RAF station, and it has direct access to numerous amenities, including shops, leisure facilities, medical services, and further education providers. Marie Shields House is also 10 minutes’ walk from Uxbridge stations and the shopping Centre. The Shopping Centre has a library, chemists, travel agents, a Medical Centre, and a large supermarket nearby, amongst other outlets. There is also a secondary school nearby. Young people can also access nearby leisure facilities like a cinema, bowling, gym, and sporting activities.
There is an excellent public transport system, including a bus service and train station, and underground station, making it easy to access surrounding areas.
The security of the home is well established. There is CCTV to monitor access to the grounds. The boundary of the grounds is fenced, and there is adequate night-time lighting around the buildings and grounds to deter unwanted visitors.
A thorough assessment of the home's location has been completed and will be reviewed at least annually. Information was collected from many sources, including Hillingdon Safeguarding Board and Hillingdon Police. The location of the home was judged to be suitable for the purpose.
We have established strong links with the local community, parish councils and police (including the local CSE team). The children and young people will be encouraged to make use of the local areas for its shops and wide range of leisure facilities as well as being encouraged to access where appropriate the natural beauty of the local area, as well as being supported to enjoy the surroundings of the nearby Lake and parks.
Crime records within the area are reasonably low, particularly concerning CSE, drug and violent offences. They are deemed average. The home engages with the local police, and a positive working partnership has been established.
